How to Become a Master at Broken Link Building using SEMrush [Tutorial]
It is common to find link building more challenging than other areas of SEO. However, with the power of SEMrush, it becomes a whole lot quicker and easier!
Broken Link Building is especially effective as you are looking at building links to content that already exists on other sites. Content that already exists should have already been indexed and hopefully has some page authority. ALSO, you are helping out the website that are linking to a broken page, which helps with their SEO and user’s experience – therefore your outreach success rate is likely to increase!

Steps:
1. Navigate to the Backlink Analytics tool in SEMrush and type in a domain name
2. Go to “Indexed Pages” section
3. Tick “Target URL error”
4. Find a page with a 404 error that you want to target
5. Click a number under the Backlinks column to see a list of sites linking to the broken page
6. Export list of potential sites into a spreadsheet
7. Begin outreach campaign

Aira’s 2020 state of link building report showed that broken link building is the second most popular link building tactic to generate backlinks.
But many people have hated on this tactic. In fact, in that same report, Rand Fishkin said… “Broken link building still works? And it’s the SECOND most popular link building tactic?!
Our experience was different. We did a broken link building campaign in 2018 which resulted in a surprising conversion rate of 28.8% — albeit — a rather small campaign.
But that was over 3 years ago.
So a couple months ago, we ran a new broken link building campaign to see if broken link building still works today.
In this video, you’ll see the results, mistakes, and the processes we used to launch this link building campaign in under 2 hours.

How To Find Broken Links And Broken Backlinks That Hurt Your SEO [OSEO-08]
Broken links and broken backlinks can hurt your website’s organic rankings in Google. But there’s an easy way to find and fix all of these SEO issues.
Using Ahrefs’ broken link checker reports, you can find both of these fast.
Note: This tool is a part of Ahrefs’ Site Explorer tool which also lets you see a website’s backlink profile and the organic keywords a website ranks for. More details here:

So what’s the difference between a broken link and a broken backlink?
A broken link is when a page on your website is linking to some other page that no longer exists. This is bad for two reasons:
1. It’s creates a bad user experience. When people click a link on your website, they’re redirected to content that no longer exists.
2. Google checks every link on your page. Once it sees that some of them lead them nowhere, it will value your page less because it’s apparently linking to some really outdated pages.
A broken backlink is when another site is linking to a page on your website that no longer exists.
This kind of link doesn’t send you any link juice or help you to rank better in Google’s search results.
To fix broken links, you can update your pages with more up-to-date resources, or remove them completely.
For broken backlinks, you have a couple of options.
First, you can recreate the page that was previously on your website so the backlinks are no longer broken.
If the page is no longer relevant, you can create a 301 redirect that links back to another relevant page on your website.
This way, you will continue to maintain some of the link equity.
